Students make a difference with food recovery club

Several days a week, students with the food recovery club collect and transport unserved food from the campus’ dining facility to give to those in need. This semester, the club devoted to reducing food waste has provided nearly 800 pounds of food to the community.

Two years ago, the St. Pete Youth Farm and USF St. Petersburg unveiled a greenhouse. Since then, the greenhouse has assisted the farm in providing hundreds of pounds of organic vegetables to the public while helping high school students grow their knowledge of food production and business.

Middle, high school and college students were celebrated for overcoming adversity, fighting for social justice and lifting up their communities.
