The University of South Florida St. Petersburg will celebrate the publication of Salt Creek Journal with a reception and reading on January 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will be held at The Edge in Coquina Hall, on the USFSP campus. It is free and open to the public.
Salt Creek Journal, a self-produced book edited by USFSP graduate student-alums Michelle Sonnenberg, Hannah Gorksi and Alison Hardage, brings together essays, poems, photographs and historic archives from a fragmented stream in south St. Petersburg. Salt Creek runs from Bayboro Harbor – alongside the USFSP campus – to Lake Maggiore.
Salt Creek Journal – which received a grant from the Center for Civic Engagement – combines the work of community authors and student writing from environmental literature courses taught by USFSP English Professor Thomas Hallock. Bringing campus and community together, the book reflects upon nature and place in the heart of a city.
