More than 30 undergraduate students from universities across the country gathered at USF St. Petersburg on July 23 to showcase their research projects during the 2025 OneUSF Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The student-led presentations marked the culmination of a summer of research opportunities through programs such as the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), the Summer Academy for Investigative Learning (SAIL) and internships with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
USF hosted several students this summer from the REU Making Waves program held at USF’s College of Marine Science. The cohort spent ten weeks living on campus, developing their research skills in oceanography while gaining a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of oceanographic research and the vital role of science communication.
Students also spent the summer building valuable research and career skills in the SAIL program. Developed for undergraduate students at USF, participants received an early, hands-on introduction to research techniques and were exposed to impactful work taking place throughout the Tampa Bay area.
The end-of-summer research symposium offered students the opportunity to present their projects to USF researchers, local employers, friends and family.
