ABOUT CAMPUS BOARD

The Campus Advisory Board of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus was established by FS 1004.33 and includes five members who are residents of Pinellas County, Florida who are recommended by the President of the University of South Florida and appointed by the University of South Florida Board of Trustees.

DUTIES

The review and approval of the annual legislative budget request to include items for campus operations and fixed capital outlay.

The approval and submission of an annual operating plan and budget for review and consultation by the Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida, reflecting actual funding available to the campus from separate line-item appropriations contained in each annual General Appropriations Act.

Contracting with the Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida for any services that the USF St. Petersburg campus cannot provide more economically, including payroll processing, accounting, technology, construction administration, and other desired services through a letter of agreement (all legal services for the campus must be provided by a central services contract with the USF).
The Campus Board may receive other delegated powers and duties for the efficient operation and improvement of the campus and for the purpose of vesting in the campus the attributes necessary to meet the requirements of accreditation; and the President shall consult with the Campus Board before hiring or terminating the Campus Executive Officer.

USF ST. PETERSBURG CAMPUS BOARD MEMBERS

The members of our Campus Board are appointed by the USF Board of Trustees.

Stephanie Goforth, Chair

Stephanie Goforth

Stephanie E. Goforth leads Northern Trust’s West Florida Region, which encompasses the offices from Tampa to Naples, on the west coast of Florida. She is responsible for all aspects of its Wealth Management business including investment management, trust and fiduciary management, financial planning and private banking.

Prior to her current role, Goforth served as Senior Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for the West Coast of Florida and Atlanta Regions of The Northern Trust Company. She was responsible for managing all aspects of the region’s trust and investment sales activities.

With more than 30 years of trust, investment and banking experience, Stephanie joined Northern Trust in 2005. She was most recently with Bank of America where she was a Senior Vice President, Private Client Advisor and City Executive responsible for all components of private client business in St. Petersburg. Prior to joining Bank of America in 1995, she worked with SunTrust Bank and First Florida Bank (Barnett Bank).

Stephanie earned her B. A. from the University of South Florida where she majored in business management. She holds the Series 7, 66 and 24 licenses and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) Certificant and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor SM (CPWA®) Designee. She is one the Board of Trustees for the All Children’s Hospital Board, University of South Florida Board, Conservancy of SW Florida Board and the Naples Botanical Gardens Board. She is also Past President of the Suncoaster’s Festival of States Organization.

John Connelly

John Connelly is a founder of Tower 8 Staffing Solutions, LLC, which specializes in the staffing of skilled workers in the construction and light industrial industry. The firm has 13 offices throughout Florida.  John is also involved with Dynamic Solutions Group, an IT consulting firm with offices in Chicago and Clearwater. He founded the company with Jim Watt in 1997 to assist businesses with their information technology plans and implementation. John previously served as a director at HUB International and was a founding member of US Ameribank.

A graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in Finance, John is currently the chairman of the YMCA of the Suncoast, treasurer of the House of Prayer and board member of Carlouel Yacht Club.

John lives on Clearwater Beach with his wife, Marilyn. They have three children.

Term expires in 2022.

Susan Churuti

Susan Churuti

Susan Hamilton Churuti is partner of the Hamilton Partnership, which owns and manages the retail space at Parkshore Plaza and 400 Beach Drive, two urban, mixed-use high-rise developments on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg. Previously, she was the co-chair of the State and Local Government Practice Group of Bryant, Miller, and Olive, PA and has worked extensively with the Pinellas County Attorney’s Office serving as the County Attorney for over twenty years.

She has broad experience representing the county and its constitutional officers. Her expertise includes U.S. and state constitutional law, legislation, charters, eminent domain, elections, risk management, public construction, public finance, utilities and procurement, as well as litigation and appellate practice. She is proficient in board representation, serving as general counsel for more than 50 boards, commissions and special districts. She served for a long tenure as the attorney for the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation drafting local bills and special acts.

She lives in St. Petersburg with her husband, Robert Churuti.

Lawrence Hamilton

Lawrence Hamilton

Lawrence Hamilton is an Executive Coach and Adjunct Faculty member with the Center for Creative Leadership affiliate at Eckerd College. Previously, Lawrence served as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Human Resources, a corporate officer and member of the Executive Committee at Tech Data Corporation.

He serves on the USF Board of Trustees ACE Committee, NASBA Center for Public Trust board of Directors and previously served as Chair, Compensation Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for HomeBanc Mortgage, Inc. and Wright Medical, Inc.; President of the INROADS/Tampa Bay, Inc. Policy Board of Directors; and is a co-founder of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources.

He lives in St. Petersburg and is the proud father of a daughter, Lauren, and a son, Lawrence William.

Term expires 2020.

Melissa Seixas

Melissa Seixas

Melissa Seixas is vice-president of government and community relations for Duke Energy Florida. She directs the company’s efforts to strengthen relationships with municipal, community and civic organizations, as well as business leaders throughout the company’s 35 county service area.

Melissa is a veteran of customer service and operations at Duke Energy. She joined Florida Power in 1986, starting in distribution engineering where she learned the operational side of the electric industry. This experience has served as a foundation for Melissa’s 33-year career as she moved into roles with increasing responsibilities.

Melissa has a strong tradition of supporting her community. She has served as a board member for many non-profit and business organizations including Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Pinellas County Urban League. She is currently the Chairwoman of the Board for the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership. She recently served as an appointee to the University of South Florida Consolidation Taskforce and served as co-chair for the USF St. Petersburg campus 50th anniversary in 2015-2016.

Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree in American history from Eckerd College and a master’s degree in American history from the University of South Florida. Her executive training includes a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) certification from Johns Hopkins University, and programs with the Edison Electric Institute and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

Melissa and her husband, Greg, live in Seminole. They have four children, Heather, Todd, Travis and Jack; and two rescued Labs Gus and Cane.

Scott Goyer

Scott Goyer

Scott Goyer has spent his career serving the YMCA. Since 2000, he has served as President/CEO of the YMCA of the Suncoast, a eight operating unit, $31 million Association serving over 100,000 men, women and children per year in Central and North Pinellas, West Pasco, Hernando and Citrus Counties. Prior to that, he served in various roles with the YMCAs in Cincinnati, San Francisco, Nashville and St. Paul.

Mr. Goyer is a graduate of Springfield College and has participated in Leadership Pinellas, serves as Board Chair of Amplify Clearwater, serves on the YPN/EAF Board, the Steering Committee for Y-USA After-School Programs, is the current Treasurer and former Chair of the Florida State YMCA Alliance, and a member of the Clearwater Rotary. He and his wife live in Clearwater and they have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Debbie Nye Sembler

Debbie Nye Sembler

Debbie Nye Sembler is a former member of the USF Board of Trustees and former chair of the USF St. Petersburg Campus Board. She also served on the USF Presidential Search Committee and the USF Consolidation Task Force. Debbie is an active supporter of educational and civic causes across the Tampa Bay community, including serving on the board of the USF Foundation. She served in the past on the All Children’s Hospital, the Florida Governor’s Mansion Foundation, Shorecrest Preparatory School and Temple Beth-el. In addition to her work with USF, she is a member of the Florida Holocaust Museum Advisory Board and is also involved with Academy Prep. Sembler is a resident of Pinellas County.

A University of Florida graduate with a B.A. in journalism and marketing, Sembler’s professional career included serving as senior account executive on the Hong Kong and Mexico accounts for Hill and Knowlton; and the Director of Public Relations for the Wyndham Hotel Seaworld in Orlando. She was also the first director of marketing for Old Hyde Park Village.
