Educational Studies (BXS)

Preparing students for careers beyond the classroom

Majoring in education doesn't mean you can only work in a classroom. Choose to major in an area that prepares you for settings other than the traditional classroom -- Educational Studies (BXS). This program teaches students the skills, methods and strategies of a successful teacher and shows students how to employ them at a range of organizations and fields. The program does not lead to teacher certification but instead ends with a degree that is broad-based and interdisciplinary with a plethora of job possibilities.

Not all educators work in a classroom

The demand for teaching and education skills outside of the classroom is very high. A BXS degree can lead to careers in:

  • Private education
  • Nonprofits
  • Business or corporate jobs
  • Museums
  • Service organizations

Students also use this degree as a building block for graduate studies such as a Master of Arts in Teaching or MA in Counseling.

What to expect from our program

This is a four-year hybrid program, meaning a portion of classes are online. This program provides flexibility to change paths, since coursework is nearly identical to the Education (with ESOL and Reading Endorsement) bachelor’s degree. There are also community-based internships for students who want to use their educational degree in a non-traditional setting.

This program does not lead to teacher certification. But graduating with an Educational Studies major will give you the tools to be an effective educator in a variety of institutions.
