Dr. Thomas Smith

If you’re reading this, you’ve discovered, heard about or have interest in one of the truly great college campuses and community learning environments around. USF St. Petersburg offers a tight-knit and rewarding educational experience within a thriving downtown, while offering students the benefits of attending a top 50 public university.

Our campus is on the water and within walking distance of museums, sports venues, coffee shops, parks and restaurants. Many of our students take advantage of this location to pursue job shadowing programs and internships, hands-on learning and research opportunities. They gain valuable skills inside and outside of the classroom, building a network of contacts at a variety of local businesses, from the Dali Museum to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to Raymond James Financial.

Our smaller size means students get individualized attention. We maintain a low faculty-student ratio, where students know their professors. Some even work alongside our stellar faculty, contributing to vital research locally and globally. At the same time, our connection to our campuses in Tampa and Sarasota-Manatee means students have access to additional resources across Tampa Bay, including athletics and an expansive alumni network, to enhance their college experience.

It is an immensely exciting time to be at USF St. Petersburg. During my 25 years here, I have witnessed the campus transform from a commuter school with a handful of buildings to a residential campus with many state-of-the-art facilities, public art installations and engaging traditions and community events. It’s been gratifying to see the upward trajectory of our campus, mirroring and supporting the growth of Tampa Bay.

I invite you to learn more about USF St. Petersburg by exploring our website, following us on social media and visiting our downtown, waterfront campus.
