Resident Assistants promote student success through the implementation of the residential curriculum and through community building initiatives. RAs serve as role models and empower their residents to achieve their goals as students living on campus. RAs must meet the following minimum qualifications at the time of hiring:
RA Qualifications
- Must fully participate in the selection process which includes submitting an RA application and completing a two-part interview.
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 at the time of hire and throughout the duration of employment
- Must be a full-time degree seeking student enrolled at USF and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester
- Must have earned at least 30 credit hours from a college/university or have attended USF as a full-time student for two or more semesters by the first day of employment
- Must be in good academic standing and have an inactive student conduct record
Time commitment
The Resident Assistant positions are important positions that positively influence student success. During the academic year, this position requires approximately 20 hours of work each week. Each week is different and some of the tasks include:
Resident Support
- Connecting and engaging with residents
- Community Floor Meetings
- Events and social programming
Training & Ongoing Development
- Fall & Spring Student Staff Training
- Weekly, two hour staff meeting and monthly all-staff meeting
- Meetings with supervisor
Crisis Management
- On-call responsibilities
- Roommate conflicts & mediations
- Responding to facilities and resident concerns
Administrative Functions
- Report writing and referrals
- Health & Safety Inspections
- Community Living Agreements
