About resident assistants
Resident Assistants (RAs) significantly impact and influence the student experience at the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg
campus. Through the Residential Curriculum, RAs implement a variety of initiatives
to promote a co-curricular learning experience. They are peer educators who promote
student success and foster a strong community in the residence halls.
RA Position Responsibilities
The following list provides an overview, and is not an all-inclusive list of job responsibilities.
- Implementing the residential curriculum which includes engaging with residents, creating education bulletin boards semesterly, and facilitating events throughout the semester.
- Assisting residents in the completion of Community Living Agreements at the start of the year and as residents move into new spaces.
- Build a welcoming community by having positive relationships with residents, hosting social and community events, and having 1 on1 interactions.
- Assist residents in a variety of personal and academic needs by providing campus resources and referring students to the appropriate offices for assistance.
- Serve in an on-call rotation for your respective building to support residents' needs and address concerns after hours.
- Inform supervisor of community trends and issues through one-on-one conversations and weekly staff meetings.
- Provide customer service to incoming and current students, families, and other staff while working the Osprey front desk 2 hours per week.
- Serve as a positive role model, consistently enforce policies
- Administrative responsibilities such as technical report writing (Duty Logs, Incident Reports, Informational Reports, Care Referrals, etc.)
2027-2028 RA Application Information
RA applications for the 2027-2028 academic year will open on October 14, 2026 and
are available via the Qualtrics form here and the job posting via Handshake (Job# 11613636). This application includes responses to short answer questions and a copy of your
resume. Responses to each question must be no more than 250 words.

- What do you believe are two essential components of being a Resident Assistant and
how have you demonstrated these components in your current or past experiences?
- The Resident Assistant role requires you to serve as a role model while balancing
personal responsibilities of leading a community. How do you demonstrate leadership
when managing multiple priorities? How would you apply that approach to support and
guide your residents?
- RA’s play a role in encouraging students to take care of themselves. How would you
support a sense of well-being in your community?
- Describe a time that you felt most connected to the USF community or the broader St.
Petersburg community? What made it memorable and/or impactful? How does this experience
influence the way you view community and help residents feel connected to their community?
- Resident Assistants play a vital role in supporting student success by serving as
mentors, role models, campus resources, community builders, and policy upholders.
Which aspect of the RA role do you believe you would have the greatest impact in,
and why? Conversely, which area do you see as an opportunity for personal growth?
How would you work to strengthen your skills in that area to better support your residents?
- Please list your plans for next year. We would like to know about how many credit hours you are planning, any outside jobs, extra-curriculars, internships, etc. and how many hours each commitment takes per week. Please note that the RA position is a 20-hour week position.
