Hazardous Waste

Chemical Waste

At USF, all chemical waste is to be considered hazardous waste and be disposed of through EH&S, according to the Hazardous Waste Management Procedure. All waste containers must be labeled with the words "Hazardous Waste," a listing of the container's contents by percentage, and the hazards presented by the waste (i.e. Flammable, Toxic, Corrosive, Reactive, etc.)

EPA D-LISTED WASTES

EPA D-Listed wastes exhibit one or more of the following characteristics: ignitibility, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity. All EPA characteristic chemical waste must be disposed of as hazardous waste through the EH&S Hazardous Waste Program. Make sure waste containers are properly labeled as stated above.

EPA F-LISTED WASTES

EPA F-Listed wastes are wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes (non-specific sources) such as solvents that have been used in cleaning or degreasing operations. F-Listed wastes must be disposed of as hazardous waste through EH&S Hazardous Waste Program. Make sure waste containers are properly labeled as stated above.

EPA U-LISTED WASTES

EPA U-Listed wastes include off-specification commercial chemical products in an unused form. Some pesticides and pharmaceutical products become hazardous waste when discarded. U-Listed wastes must be disposed of as hazardous waste through EH&S Hazardous Waste Program. Make sure waste containers are properly labeled as stated above.

EPA P-LISTED WASTES

The EPA has designated certain chemical wastes as "acutely hazardous" and placed special restrictions on their accumulation and disposal. These "P-Listed" wastes and their empty containers must be properly labeled, as stated above and disposed of as hazardous waste through the EH&S Hazardous Waste Program.
