EH&S Training Program Changes

SHIFTING GEARS

With the new emphasis on remote/online learning, EH&S has undertaken an initiative to offer more of its training courses remotely via Teams and online via Canvas wherever possible.  In the process, we have revised many of our traditional training to move from courses with many topics to courses with a single topic. We are also targeting specific audiences where we are able.  In making this shift, each individual topic will get the coverage it deserves, participants will only need to take the training required for their particular circumstances, and in many cases, it will be specific to their activities.

Update - January 4, 2021 (revised 4/23/21)

Laboratory & Research Safety  is now Lab Safety - Chem/Bio.
Lab Safety - Comparative Med and Lab Safety - Physics retain the same titles.
These courses now only cover lab safety topics as listed in OSHA's Lab Standard. Hazardous waste and biomedical waste are no longer covered, so these courses no longer satisfy annual training requirements for either of those topics.

Biomedical Waste Refresher is now simply Biomedical Waste. This course is required to be completed annually by anyone who generates biomedical waste.

Hazardous Waste Refresher has been revamped and has been split into four targeted courses entitled:

  • Hazardous Waste Awareness and Handling - Art Studios/Shops
  • Hazardous Waste Awareness and Handling - Custodial Areas
  • Hazardous WasteAwareness and Handling -  Laboratories
  • Hazardous Waste Awareness and Handling - Maintenance/Shops.

One of these courses is required to be completed annually by anyone who generates hazardous waste.

Stay tuned for more changes as they are made available.  Please direct any questions about EH&S training to Tampa EH&S at 813-974-4036.
