Nationally, 1 in 3 undergraduates – nearly 5M students – identify as first-generation college students, the first in their family to earn a baccalaureate degree. In fall of 2024, USF enrolled approximately 4.500 first-generation students.

At the St. Petersburg, nearly 500 of our undergraduate students are the first in their families to earn a baccalaureate degree, we affectionately and proudly refer to our students as #FirstGenBulls!

An earned degree can be transformative for every student, but it can be especially transformative for first-gen students, and their families, as it drives social and economic mobility and can help build generational wealth.
