Sustainability Courses

USF offers a variety of courses that emphasize on sustainability. This growing list of courses provides students the opportunity to gain a breadth of knowledge in sustainability as well as apply practical learning on campus and in the surrounding community through immersive learning experience. 


 The following key words can be used to identify potential sustainability focused courses and/or sustainability related courses from the academic catalog.

 Sustainability focused courses

These are courses in which the primary and explicit focus is on sustainability and/or on understanding or solving one or more sustainability challenge. These courses may have an explicit focus on sustainability, the application of sustainability within a field, or on providing skills and/or knowledge directly connected to understanding or solving one or more major sustainability challenges. 

Sustainability Related Courses

Courses in this category are primarily focused on a topic other than sustainability, but incorporates a unit or module on sustainability or a sustainability challenge, includes one or more sustainability-focused activities, or integrates sustainability issues throughout the course.

Immersive Experience Courses

A sustainability immersive experience is an educational program or academic course that concentrates on sustainability and its three dimensions: social, economic, and environment. The University of South Florida offers several opportunities for students to; explore in-depth solutions to major sustainability challenges, produce innovative tangible outcomes, create positive impact on the larger community or connect to the professionals in the industry. These are Sustainability Courses that include project-based learning, providing students with hands on-experience by applying existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical applications for real world challenges.
