Office of Sustainability

Overview

The Office of Sustainability is charged with advising the University on matters pertaining to the campus environment, sustainability, and energy efficiency. Through this mission, the office encourages and facilitates the collaborative efforts of the campus community in generating knowledge, developing values, changing behaviors and initiating practices that contribute to a sustainable campus.

The Office of Sustainability serves as the primary hub for all sustainability efforts, practices, and initiatives on campus. The office is open to all ideas, projects and campaigns to make USF St. Petersburg more sustainable.


 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leading and coordinating University data for the ongoing Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, & Rating System (STARS).
  2. Conducting Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories and accomplishing objectives and goals within the Climate Action Plan (CAP) to comply with the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC)
  3. Assist staff, students and faculty through continued sustainability education and research through guest lectures, working with student interns, student-group class projects, researching technical journals, attending professional meetings, etc.
  4. Coordinate sustainable design and green development projects on campus such as the addition of on-site renewable energy; includes monitoring solar energy production and schedule maintenance and repair of arrays when needed.
  5. Research and identifies grant-writing, sponsorships, rebate programs, and other funding opportunities in support of expanded campus sustainability efforts.
  6. Planning for LEED certification of all new construction.
  7. Serves on the USF Inter-campus Facilities Sustainability Round table, City of St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Task Force, Tampa Bay Environmental Professionals, U.S. Green Building Council Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, St. Petersburg Energy Roundtable and other committees as assigned and attends meetings with external organizations to represent the University on sustainability issues.
  8. Work towards developing partnerships with external organizations and managing current partnerships with organizations.
  9. Assisting with student organizations such as the Student Green Energy Fund and the Clean
    Energy and Resource Conservation Commission.
  10. Maintaining the green revolving fund
