Second-Year Experience

The Second-Year Experience provides students a chance to get MORE out of their sophomore year. Through tailored social programming, and exclusive career exploration opportunities, second-year students will be supported every step of the way. There’s no room for a sophomore slump when you’re having the best year ever!

Sophomore BBQ

Kick off fall semester with this fun welcome back dinner! Bring your friends, meet new sophomores, and mingle with your second-year professional staff. Dinner will be provided from Sonny's BBQ. Look out for an email with your invitation to this exclusive event JUST for sophomores. We can't wait to welcome you back to campus!

St. Pete Adventures

St. Pete Adventures are off-campus excursions to local attractions designed to help new students connect with their peers and gain a deeper understanding of the St. Petersburg campus community. Transportation and admission are included, and these exciting events are scheduled throughout the academic year.

 Join Rising Bulls, a FREE, year-long program designed to provide YOU with guided support as you prepare to launch your career journey!

  • Career Support Workshops (to get individual support on things such as resumes, LinkedIn, cover letters, and more!)
  • Monthly Peer Advisor Leader (PAL) Check-Ins
  • PAL Socials to help you network and get to know your fellow Rising Bulls!
  • Rising Bulls End-of-Year Banquet 
  • Priority consideration for the Peer Advisor Leader (PAL) job position with New Student Connections
  • Certificate of completion
  • You will finish the program having EVERYTHING you need to be competitive for internships, jobs, and more!

Program Requirements

By the end of the year, we will support you as you:

  • Attend the Rising Bulls Kick-Off event 
  • Network at the Fall/Spring Internship & Job Fairs
  • Complete at least 10 hours in a career-related experience & participate in a job shadow
  • Create a resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile, and complete a mock interview
  • Check in with your Peer Advisor Leader (PAL) once a month
  • Meet with a professor to request a letter of recommendation
  • Attend at least one PAL social event each semester
  • Join and actively participate in at least one USF club or organization

This program is great for students who:

  • Feel confused or nervous about what they need to do to prepare for internships and jobs
  • Want individualized support from a great team of professional and student staff
  • May know what they need to do for their career, but struggle to find the time to do it all between their schoolwork and other obligations
  • Want to get more involved on campus
  • Hope to meet other like-minded students who are dedicated to personal growth and career aspirations!
