Campus Recreation has a passion for sailing and we are always excited to help someone learn. The Start Sailing Right program is a perfect first step to learn the basics of sailing on our Flying Junior dinghy fleet. In a group setting, you will learn the skills necessary to safely sail a small boat in protected waters, near shore, in Tampa Bay. Skills include knot tying, seamanship, sail theory, emergency procedures, boat handling, and sail trim. Upon completion and a current USF St. Petersburg Campus Recreation membership, you will have access to our Recreation Dinghy Fleet during open Boathouse hours.
Already know how to sail?

If you have the skills to sail, schedule a skipper’s checkout to get access to our recreational dinghy fleet – contact Dan Marshall at dtmarshall@usf.edu or stop by the Haney Landing Center during hours of operation. The cost is $25 and is good for two years.

Our Start Powerboating Right program is a perfect first step for those looking to establish power boat skills. After successful completion of the program, each participant will have earned their Florida Boaters License and US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification.
